The "eventatrium" was situated on the former horse track in Villa Borghese. In order to mitigate the damage from annual events, caused by heavy, temporary structures and equipment, the program called for a permanent structure that accommodated a track facility, museum, and markets. The site was located near major attraction sites and below the site was an existing parking garage. Our first impression of the site was its enormous scale and severe lack of use. The issue was clear, the sheer openness of the site, in a city where the urban vernacular is intimate and enclosed spaces, made for an overall uninviting feeling. Given the massive scale of the site, the goal was to bisect the site into smaller sections through a major spine, which directed the flow from the different buildings and entry points to converge into the center.
